Internal and Family Medicine
In the field of internal medicine, we provide an entire overall diagnosis and develop a specially tailored therapy, as well as screenings with appropriate recommendations, especially for myocardial infarction and stroke prevention. Focuses:
Ultrasound examinations
Heart, abdomen, thyroid gland, carotid arteries, vessels in legs
The color-coded doppler sonography (CCDS) is the most modern and free from side effects imaging method in medicine. An essential advantage of ultrasound over the commonly used X-rays also lies in the harmlessness of the used sound waves. There is no damage to tissues at all, neither sensitive tissues, like the unborn child, are damaged. The examination is largely painless.
Vascular Doppler-Sonography
The Doppler and duplex sonography is a specialized ultrasound examination measuring the velocity of blood in the blood vessels (arteries and veins) is measured. This examination can identify constricted vessels.
Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. we offer special angiologic consultations with our new colleague Dr.med. Horst Fabricius, Specialist for Internal Medicine.
ECG / Stress-ECG / 24 hour to 7-day ECG
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the registration of the sum of the electrical activity of the heart muscle fibers, it can be called the heart voltage curve. More information can be found here.
24-hour blood pressure measurement
In indirect arterial pressure measurement (often abbreviated “NIBP”, non-invasive blood pressure) the arterial blood pressure is measured, using a blood pressure monitor (sphygmomanometer) on a limb, usually the arm.
Pulmonary function test
The most commonly performed lung function testing is spirometry. Hereby, the air flow is measured by a sensor when breathing. The spirometry requires a maximum exhalation and inhalation. Since the air flow in and out of the lungs is measured continuously, lung volumes also can be determined.
Screening and prevention
Especially for: myocardial infarction, stroke, prostate and colorectal cancer.
The progress in medicine cannot be missed. Almost daily, new drugs, surgical procedures and other treatments are being developed. Many serious diseases are now curable, but: Even the best therapy only is useful if applied in time!
However, especially the widespread diseases and leading causes of death of our time – cancer, heart and circulatory disease, diabetes, etc. – give little or even no symptoms at all in the early stages.
Therefore, early studies in humans showing no symptoms so far are carried out. Due to these examinations, many diseases are diagnosed at an early stage and can be treated appropriately, other diseases can be even avoided altogether if appropriate risk factors are detected early and eliminated.
Travel medicine, including vaccinations
Travel medicine is the field of medicine dealing with of all facts related to health risks for travelers including prophylaxis, diagnosis and therapy. Especially when traveling to the tropics and subtropics many diseases or health disorders may occur.
Detailed labaratory diagnostics
(Cooperation with Labor 28 and the Institute for microecology in Herborn)
Labaratory medicine is a diagnostic medical branch at the interface of scientific fields auch as biochemistry or molecular biology.
